In a retrospective look at ‘The Matrix’ for its 25th anniversary, Keanu Reeves has said the sci-fi blockbuster “changed [his] life”.
Although it has not yet been confirmed, it is almost certain that Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will return as Neo and Trinity, respectively, for the fifth installment of “The Matrix.”
Drew Goddard, known for “The Martian,” has been announced as the director for the new film. This marks the first time a movie in the series will not be directed by the franchise’s creators, Lana and Lilly Wachowski, although Lilly Wachowski will serve as an executive producer.
While plot details remain under wraps, Warner Bros. Motion Pictures head Jesse Ehrman has indicated that the story will continue to expand the franchise’s unique world. Ehrman stated, “Drew came to Warner Bros. with a new idea that we all believe would be an incredible way to continue the ‘Matrix’ world, by both honoring what Lana and Lilly began over 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love of the series and characters.
“The entire team at Warner Bros. Discovery is thrilled for Drew to be making this new ‘Matrix’ film, adding his vision to the cinematic canon the Wachowskis spent a quarter of a century building here at the studio.”
