Melissa Sue Anderson recently turned 61 – hold your heart before you see her now

How often do you remember an old show you loved watching and wonder how the actors are doing so long after the show has ended? Many of you who watched “Little House on the Prairie” and were excited to follow the family’s every move on their farm in Plum Creek, which is close to Walnut Grove, Minnesota, probably would like to know what the performers are doing these days.

The gorgeous Melissa Sue Anderson, who played Mary Ingalls, was adored by her fans, who thought she would stay in their lives through television, but she had other ideas.

Playing supporting parts in her early acting career, this actress broke through into the entertainment industry as a key character on “Little House on the Prairie.” Her admirers understood she deserved the multiple nominations she received for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series because of her performance.

In 2010, Anderson addressed Pop Entertainment about her experience filming the drama that catapulted her to fame, saying, “I’m lucky that there was even a character to play, because in the book, there isn’t much of one.” When Laura [Ingalls] penned the Little House novels—which served as the basis for the television show and the focal point of the narrative—she was a considerably older lady. She was reminiscing about her finest moments. Not much was determined by the personalities of Ma and Mary. While Mary wasn’t present as much, there was a lot of Laura, Pa, Jack the dog, and Mr. Edwards. It’s a blessing that they realized I could act.

Following Mary Ingalls, she attempted a number of small jobs before marrying television producer Michael Sloan in 1990. The couple moved to Montreal in 2002 with their two kids, Griffin and Piper, and daughter Piper.

Anderson stated, “I really stepped away for a long time,” in an interview with E-Talk. That was primarily for the kids, so instead of hanging out with me, they would have their own sense of identity.

Anderson did not entirely give up acting, either; in recent years, he has taken on a few modest jobs. She was inspired to write a memoir titled The Way I See It: A Look Back at My Life on Little House by her transformative experience as a cast member of television shows like “Little House on the Prairie.”
