Late actor Anthony Quinn to be honored with son’s art

Long before films were watched on cellphones, there lived movie star Anthony Quinn, known for “Zorba the Greek,” “Lust for Life” with Kirk Douglas, “Viva Zapata!” with Marlon Brando, “Lawrence of Arabia” with Peter O’Toole, “La Strada,” “Requiem for a Heavyweight,” and “The Guns of Navarone.”

Nominated for four Oscars, he won two for Best Supporting Actor. Decades before “Roma,” he said, “I’m from Chihuahua. They’re not giving awards to Mexicans.”

Anthony, tempestuous and temperamental, had three wives, one marriage lasting about 30 years. I was close to my forever friend, even in the hospital with his family.

Lorenzo, his son, is a mirror image of Anthony and equally artistic. He studied at Actors Studio, then became an artist and sculptor. Lorenzo now exhibits in London’s Halcyon Gallery, with a foundry in Madrid and Barcelona, where he lives. Publishers and documentarians plan to immortalize Anthony, who passed away in 2001. Lorenzo was recently in town to organize his own sculptures along Park Avenue.
